Transaction Hash (TxID)

A transaction hash, or txid, is the unique identifier you paste into a block explorer to look up a transfer and check its status.

A transaction hash, also called a txid or transaction ID, is the unique fingerprint produced when a transaction is hashed. It is the string you paste into a block explorer to look up a transfer and see its status, sender, recipient, amount, fee and the block that contains it. Because the hash is derived from the transaction data itself, any change to that data produces a different hash, which is why it works as a reliable reference. A transaction hash proves that a specific transaction exists on the network; it does not prove who controls the addresses involved or why the payment was made. Exchange and wallet support teams routinely ask for it when tracing a missing transfer.
